Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I prepare the surface of my form to accept the ECO NO-OIL™ coatings?
Ans: A coating’s performance is directly proportional to the effort directed to preparing the surface. WORLDTECH recommends the steel form be sand blasted to an SP-6 specification established by the Steel Structures Painting Council. Concrete surfaces shall be cleaned to remove all contaminants; dirt, curing compounds, laitance, oil, etc. Every effort should be made to prime the blasted surface the same day. If this is not possible, protect the form from the elements and inspect it for corrosion prior to priming.

  2. How do I apply the primer and topcoat?
Ans: Both the primer and topcoat can be applied with brush, roller, or spray gun, however applying primer and topcoat with spray will yield the best results. Brushing may be necessary to reach areas of the form not accessible to spray. It is very important to follow the catalyzing and mixing instructions precisely for both the primer and topcoat. Please see the complete application instructions on the Technology & Specifications link.

  3. What is the recommended DFT, dry finished thickness, for the primer and topcoat?
Ans: The minimum recommended DFT (dry finished thickness) for the primer is 2.5 – 3 mils. The recommended DTF for the topcoat is 1.5 – 2 mils.

  4. How long do I wait before I apply the ECO NO-OIL™ topcoat to the primed form?
Ans: Epoxy primers have strict topcoat windows. Refer to and follow the application of topcoat recommendations found on the Primer’s product data sheet.

  5. When Can I put the form into service after the topcoat has been applied?
Ans: Twenty four hours after application of the topcoat.

  6. How do I clean the form?
Ans: To avoid a build-up of contaminants, a little time should be spent cleaning the form prior to each pour. A wet rag or fine steel wool (000 or 0000) can be used to remove residue and laitance. Four inch metal scrapers and putty knives will also work in removing concrete residue. In severe cases of laitance, use a solution of 30% muriatic acid and water with steel wool or rag.

  7. How many pours should I expect from my ECO coated form?
Ans: The number of cycles differs from form to form. Tricon Precast, Houston, TX, attained in excess of 50 cycles from an ECO coated barrier form. The number of pours is directly linked to the maintenance of the form.

  8. What if I notice the topcoat has been removed after a number of cycles?
Ans: If the topcoat has been removed after a number of cycles and the primer is still intact, sand the area with 200 – 300 grit sandpaper and apply more ECO NO-OIL™ topcoat with a brush. Allow the topcoat to cure for 24 hours before putting the form back into service.

  9. Is this material hazardous to my health?
Ans: Both the primer and the topcoat contain solvents. Follow the personal protective gear recommendations in the MSDS and product data sheets for the various coatings. Applying the coatings in a well ventilated area is always the best practice.
